Emma and Colin

This engagement shoot took place months ago. Emma and Colin have even been married for months now. I’ve got very bad at blogging recently. Hopefully, I’ll be able to catch up a bit soon.

Emma and Colin were set to get married at Ufton Court, near Reading. Emma suggested that we could do the engagement photoshoot there as I tend to work in and around Oxford and this was not a venue I had been to before. Normally, I would visit a new venue in advance of the wedding anyway, but being there with the couple was an excellent opportunity to get to know what they liked about the place.

For Emma, Ufton Court had childhood memory’s, as it is also an education trust which has school visits there. Emma had stayed there on several occasions with her school. For Colin the connection was Emma.

Geeting to know the couple a little is one of the reasons I offer free engagement shoots with wedding bookings. It gives couples an opportunity to get to know me, and confirm that they are happy with both my style of photography, and my style of working. Understanding the photographers personality is one of the keys to feeling comfortable with them as your wedding photography. And as a photographer, I want to understand a couples’ personality so that I can best capture them on their wedding day. One important aspect is their sense of humour. Weddings are happy occasions and there is often a lot of laughter. Quite often I’ll try to use humorous shots in an engagement shoot to try to gauge whether I click with the couple. However, the best shots are always where the personality and humour of the couple come out naturally. I thought the few shoots below reflected Emma and Colin well.
