I’ve been rather busy lately with booking weddings and photographing St Hugh’s & Corpus Christi college ball. Although I was originally booked by Corpus, the ball merged with St Hugh’s Ball because ticket sales were low. The combined ball was a much better size. We were only able to use one studio because space was at a premium for the ball, meaning we were busy throughout the night. At this ball we used a new vinyl background and projected different coloured background to suit the client’s clothes (hopefully). I think the results were good, particularly for 3/4 length shots. The main problem with full length shots was that the vinyl kept rucking up as we were unable to secure it at the sides, and the flooring was fairly soft.

Yesterday I did a fairly short job for a client who wanted me to record her birthday dinner at Harris Manchester College, Oxford. The dinner was the colleges normal evening formal hall, with the added addition of a cake being presented to her. She was particularly keen that I should capture that presentation. As one of the senior members of the college she was seated at the high table and happened to be facing the organ loft, making photos from balcony possible in addition to those from nearer the table. The lighting was challenging as it was fairly dim, but not impossible. Although high ISOs were needed and using the flash meant I couldn’t be as discrete as I would have liked.

The engagment photoshoot planned for today was postponed for a couple of weeks, so I took a walk down by the river in Oxford. It happened to be one of the race days for the Isis Winter League. I only stayed for one race, but managed to fill a 1Gb memory card with photos. Prints can be purchase on my photobox gallery. The picture above is Linacre college women’s 1st eight.
